Modeling is still on-going, but I just had to put together a quick example of how the rig will look.
The Slider above the helmet is non-renderable, of course and drives the rotation of the visor around an axis point inside the helmet. The adjustment knob for the helmet is parented to the visor itself, so it goes along for the ride
That’s it for today. Hopefully I can find some more time soon to work on the visor assembly.

Here’s a look at things so far. Thanks to my wife for posing in the helmet.
Now the last thing I need is another project, but this one is unique. Rather than begin a project where I answer only to myself, this one involves more people than just myself. Yes, I will be enlisting the help of others and by doing so, put more onus on actually finishing it.
I don’t want to give too much away at this time, but I can say it will start with modeling of military pilot’s and aircraft carrier deck worker’s helmets. At first I will model true to the original design of each helmet. Then, I will begin a departure that arrives at more futuristic designs.
I am still at my day job, working as a Flash character designer/animator/scriptor, but my real passion will be this 3D work, so keep checkig back here for updates and pictures!
